Krewe of Gumbo Yaya
The Krewe of Gumbo Yaya is an 18-member Krewe
founded in 2002. It is a parade Krewe only. Social events for
the members are held throughout the year, but there is no formal
ball celebration.
Krewe members have been parading together for several years
and the membership is comprised of friends and families from
the Central Louisiana area, with two members coming from Oklahoma
.
The purpose of the Krewe is to celebrate the season together
as friends and family and to promote family involvement in Mardi
Gras. Several members of this Krewe are active in the Alexandria
Mardi Gras Association and they participate in all Mardi Gras
events in the area.
In 2005, the Krewe of Gumbo Yaya celebrated the Mardi Gras season
by unveiling their new float.
