Mardi Gras de la Louisiane

Krewe of Mariposa

The all women Krewe of Mariposa was formed in February 2000. The founders are Barbara Dobard, Denise Dobard, Mary Floyd, Jackie Lee, Eva Long, Phyllis Vilar and Ann West Williams. The Spanish name Mariposa means butterfly. Of all the things in nature that throughout history have captivated the minds, hearts and souls of people, perhaps the most powerful and most universal are butterflies.

Butterflies have been cherished for both their beauty and symbolism. They are a joyous symbol of life and the very essence of happiness. These winged jewels take flight and appear to be dancing, and are a reminder not to take things so seriously. They are reminders to get up and move, for if you can move you can dance, and dance brings joy! The beautiful Mariposa crest represents all these butterfly symbols combined to form a fantasy woman whose wishes will all come true.
