HISTORY OF KREWE OF SHIEKS

The Krewe of Sheiks was one of the first krewes formed in Alexandria . They have participated in the Alexandria Mardi Gras Parade since it's inception in 1995. The Captain of the Krewe for 2008 is Sheik Brad Normand. The Krewe is made up of professional men from Alexandria and Pineville. All of the members can trace their heritage back to the days of the Crusades when their ancestors traveled to the mysterious and exotic Middle East to recapture the Holy Land . There they met and married the beautiful princesses of the Sheiks and returned to Europe with them as their wives.

Although the culture of the countries in the Arab world is unknown and misunderstood by most of the Western world, the Krewe of Sheiks continues to celebrate their heritage by lavishing the crowds with jewels from their floating oasis during the parades.
