Josh Mercer
Josh Mercers passion for football started when he
played triple A football in the 6th grade.
He played quarterback at Brame where they went undefeated
and won district in the 8th grade. He also won Student
Scholar Athlete that year .
When he started at ASH as a freshman he was quick to tackle
whatever position the coaches needed him at
simply
being on the field was his joy.
His Junior year, Josh was a starting linebacker and was
chosen for 2nd Team All District. Last years playoff
game against Bastrop was the last game he played in. He
suffered a concussion that pulled him out of the game.
This past May during Spring Training Josh took a bad hit
which caused a brain bleed resulting in surgery. Even
though Josh was unable to participate in the game on the
field, he still contributed to the team on the sidelines
as a coach. Joshs 37 jersey was retired
and there is now a Josh Mercer Award at Alexandria Senior
High School for athletes who display courage, commitment,
and character under adverse conditions. He remains a leader
and inspiration, not only to the team, but also to his
family and friends.
